Types of hydraulic cylinders

Single-Acting Cylinders : Single-acting cylinders have pressure applied to one side of the piston, causing movement in one direction. The return is usually by a spring or gravity. These cylinders are often used where single motion is needed, such as in jacks.

Double-acting cylinders : Double-acting cylinders have pressure applied to both sides of the piston, allowing movement in both directions.
